Simone Biles Wears Fiery Red Leotard Covered in 3,600 Crystals to Win Gold in Paris Olympics Vault Final
The Patriotic Poise leotard — which Biles debuted during the vault finals in Paris — had sheer panels spliced into the fabric for added flair.
But the real bit of pizzazz came from the crystals. This leotard has 3,600 ruby and garnet Swarovski crystals scattered across the stretch satin material, including a crisscross pattern across the front.
It also featured a higher neckline and long sleeves with a bit of a pattern on the sheer panels.
At this year’s games, Biles and the rest of the U.S. gymnastics team (Jade Carey, Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles and Hezly Rivera) came armed with eight different dazzling leotards.
Designed by sportswear brand GK Elite, the outfits have been in the works for the past two years and are covered in thousands of Swarovski crystals.
“We wanted to lean into that hard for Paris, the fashion capital of the world. So we utilized a lot of high fashion elements, looked at a lot of corsetry, at Art Nouveau architecture, at old Hollywood glamour of the 1920s.”
The U.S. team wear the same leotard to the team competition, and for the Tuesday, July 30, event, they opted for the Go for Glory design. The red, white and blue look features close to 10,000 authentic Swarovski crystals.
