This Sunday marks the first Mother’s Day since the Queen’s death – and Charles paid tribute not only to his late mother but to all mothers “everywhere”.

The King had a special bond with his mother and when he was proclaimed monarch after her death in September, he paid a moving tribute to her.

He spoke of his mother’s “dedication and devotion”, adding her death was an irreparable loss.

During the Accession Council, Charles said: “My lords, ladies, and gentlemen it is my most sorrowful duty to announce to you the death of my beloved mother, the Queen.

“I know how deeply you, the entire nation – and I think I may say the whole world – sympathise with me in the irreparable loss we have all suffered.
