Inside Taylor Swift’s first post-record deal purchase

Taylor Swift has made her first major purchase since gaining control over her master recordings, channelling an iconic cinematic character.

The two-part documentary, Taylor Swift vs Scooter Braun: Bad Blood, premiered on Friday, with the first episode presenting Taylor’s perspective on the feud and the second episode showcasing Scooter’s side of the story.The documentary traces the Lover crooner’s journey from her early days as a teenager signed to Big Machine in the early 2000s, where she relinquished ownership of her masters as part of a standard six-album deal.

Journalist and novelist Zing Tsjeng discussed in the second episode what Taylor did with her first payment after signing with Big Machine.

“Famously she used her first paycheck to buy a Lexus convertible as a kind of snub to the popular girls,” she explained.

And Swift reportedly had a reason to buy the expensive car.
