EXCLUSIVE: O.J. Simpson dies at 76: Family of controversial NFL player announces death after battle with cancer
Simpson leaves behind a complicated legacy, one that was defined as much by a highly-publicized 1990s trial for murder that ended in a controversial acquittal. Simpson also later spent nearly a decade in prison after a handful of felony convictions including robbery and kidnapping.
Before 1994, Simpson was a larger-than-life figure who lived the American dream on the football field. Simpson won the Heisman Trophy at USC in 1968 and was the No. 1 overall pick of the 1969 NFL Draft, spending 11 seasons in the NFL.
Simpson led the NFL in rushing on four occasions, including a 2,003 yard season in just 14 games with Buffalo in 1973. He finished his career with 11,236 rushing yards and 75 total touchdowns.
Here’s more to know about Simpson and his life on and off the football field.
