Coco Gauff under criticism from fans after appointment as USA flag-bearer at Paris Olympics 2024, with claims of Simone Biles being more deserving
Coco Gauff was announced as the flag bearer for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony on Wednesday, July 24.
The appointment should’ve arguably been one of the greatest moments of her young career, but instead it was marred by controversy.
Coco Gauff will take center stage to commence the 2024 Summer Olympics.”I never thought in a million years I would have the honor of carrying the American flag for Team USA in the opening ceremony.”
“I could not be more proud to lead my teammates with LeBron as we showcase our dedication and passion on the biggest stage there is.”
“Your last year was incredible,” Eubanks told Gauff. “You captured the world by storm. You captured your first Grand Slam. I think you kind of showcased to the world, in the U.S. and abroad, how special of a person and tennis player you are.”
Gauff rose to national prominence at age 15 by qualifying for Wimbledon and defeating Venus Williams.
She was poised to represent the U.S. in Tokyo three years ago before testing positive for COVID-19.
