Breaking News: Jennifer Love Hewitt & Freddie Prinze Jr are returning to the horror franchise that helped launched their careers
Hewitt, 43, and Prinze, 46, are being considered to return for a transitional horror film that will pair them with a mostly new cast, Deadline reported on Monday. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is set to direct the horror feature.
The upcoming sequel is currently in the early stages of development, insiders told the publication.
Hewitt and Prinze starred in the original film with Sarah Michelle Gellar — who later married Prinze — and Ryan Phillippe, and they returned one year later for the critically derided sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, which saw Brandy and Mekhi Phifer joining the main cast.
A direct-to-video sequel without any of the original cast members was also released in 2006.
The new film is looking to bring back some of the original’s creative team, as producer Neal H. Moritz is in talks to return.
Leah McKendrick has also been hired to write the film’s screenplay.
Sony Pictures did not comment for the original story.
