“Chiefs HC Andy Reid says Brashard Smith won’t practice with an illness. Reid says Brett Veach is handling the Josh Simmons situation and that he won’t be commenting on it,” via Charles Goldman of A to Z Sports.

Smith began his career with the Miami Hurricanes, but he was not used much until he transferred to SMU. This year, he has emerged as an option in the Chiefs’ running back room. He has eight carries for 28 yards and nine receptions for 80 yards.

In the Week 6 win over the Lions, Smith didn’t have a carry, but he had three catches for 21 yards on four targets. He has become a consistent option in the passing game. Patrick Mahomes is the Chiefs’ leading rusher with 222 yards.

Isiah Pacheco is second with 214 yards, and Kareem Hunt is third with 187 yards. While Smith hasn’t seen many carries, he has been involved in the offense, and his illness will be one to monitor.

As for the Josh Simmons situation Goldman mentioned in his X post, Reid indicated Brett Veach, the Chiefs’ general manager, is taking the lead on handling the personal reasons that led Simmons, the team’s rookie left tackle, to miss Sunday’s game against Detroit. The team has provided no update on Simmons’ status for this week.
